Raphael Stern serves as the Global Head of Fixed Income Portfolio Management for ETFs and Index Strategies at Invesco. With responsibility for overseeing Invesco’s global Fixed Income portfolio management team, Raphael manages approximately $45 billion across 80 indexed Fixed Income strategies. He joined Invesco in 2017, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his previous roles. Before joining Invesco, Raphael held positions as a senior fixed income ETF portfolio manager at DWS and as a Fixed Income portfolio manager and trader at Vanguard in London. Prior to his time in London, Raphael worked as an analyst at Lehman Brothers and Goldman Sachs in New York. His extensive background in Fixed Income management and trading positions him as a key figure in Invesco’s ETF and indexed strategies division.

Jim has over 15yrs experience in the ETF industry and represents Invesco as an SME across multiple trade associations engaging on various market structure topics impacting the ETF industry.. Prior to joining the firm he was an ETF Capital Markets Specialist with Vanguard and has also held trading assistant and operational management roles at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Matthew Coupe was formally global head of cross asset market structure, based in London. Further to this he develops explanatory and thought leadership pieces around Market Structure. He has previously sat on the FCA’s Secondary Markets Advisory Committee, the CFTC’s Global Market Structure sub-committee, the FMSB’s board and currently co-chairs the Fix Trading Community for the EMEA region. Eric Böss is Global Head of Trading at Allianz Global Investors, where he has worked since 1994. He leads the implementation of investment strategies across all asset classes. Throughout 2024, Böss has restructured AllianzGI’s trading function, using his experience to inform his views on the future of trading. This involved evaluating various trading desk structures, as well as how to best align trading operations with investment strategies. Böss has also considered resource allocation, deciding which asset classes require specialist traders and how to generate innovative ideas within resource limitations. These insights have led him to develop decision trees for building an ideal trading desk, balancing technological advancements with human expertise. Böss believes that data handling is crucial to a trading desk’s success and has created a new tech team to harness its potential.

Previously, Eric was responsible for trading and overlay management at Groupama Asset Management, covering equities, fixed income, FX, and derivatives. 1 He led initiatives to automate workflows, improve market intelligence, enhance liquidity access, and implement data mining strategies to increase trading efficiencies.

Christopher Hughes is a Senior Equity Trader at Royal London Asset Management (RLAM), where he has been trading equities since 2004. Hughes has witnessed the evolution of the trading desk firsthand, having joined in 2004 when it was a two-person operation. He emphasizes the importance of in-house data capabilities to gain an edge in the current trading environment and is actively involved in building pre-trade analysis tools and market impact models to reduce reliance on broker-provided data. Hughes is a proponent of bilateral trading, engaging indirectly with liquidity providers via anonymous streams of liquidity.. Currently managing a team comprising of 3 EQ traders, 3 FI traders, and 2 FX traders, he is in the process of expanding the team to 10 traders through a talent program for graduate traders. Looking ahead, Frans envisions a future where automation plays a more significant role, expecting a reduction in the need for traders over the next 5 years. Inspired by the Bloomberg (BBG) model, he acknowledges the advanced state of automation and data in Equities compared to other asset classes. Frans plans to prioritise automation in Equities, followed by Fixed Income and currencies, recognising the need to catch up, especially when compared to hedge funds.

Responsible for FX intervention, he oversees CHF 850 billion in global reserves, managed using similar tools to asset managers. While less active in NDFs, he focuses on onshore deliverable trades in emerging markets and shares interest in managing regulatory and liquidity challenges.
